The District of Metchosin is advising residents that smoke from the Leech River wildfire (V62262) in the Sooke Hills is currently visible from Metchosin.
The fire was discovered on September 20 and is currently classified as out of control. Current reports indicate the fire is approximately 12 hectares in size.
Crews from the Capital Regional District (CRD) and BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) are currently working on the incident, with ground personnel and aircraft supporting firefighting operations.
At this time, no structures are threatened.
Residents in Metchosin and surrounding communities may see smoke and firefighting aircraft associated with the incident. The presence of smoke in the Metchosin area does not indicate that there is a fire within the District.
The Metchosin Fire Department is monitoring the situation and remains in communication with regional fire and wildfire agencies.
