UPDATE -BC Hydro Operational Update Advises Metchosin & Sooke Residents of Traffic Impacts on Sooke Rd

APRIL 17, 2026 UPDATE FROM BC HYDRO
METCHOSIN/ SOOKE: Until May 4th, BC Hydro will be continuing with daytime work along Sooke Rd, between Woodruff Rd and Kangaroo Rd. While the daytime work is expected to end May 4th, the schedule may extend depending on weather conditions, site constraints, or other operational requirements. Once the daytime work is completed, there will be a two-week period where work returns to nighttime hours for approximately 10 more days. We regret the challenges the public is facing with this disruption, but this is part of necessary system improvement work we are doing across the Island.

While we will not be impacting rush-hour traffic, the work will require lane usage during the hours of 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There may be times when work extends beyond this window and BC Hydro will do its best to communicate when this is required.
              - In areas where the road is double-lane, traffic will operate as single-lane alternating.
              - In areas with three lanes, two lanes will remain open for traffic.

To keep drivers informed, electronic message boards will be installed at key locations.

Please keep to the safe speed limit in work zones and follow the directions of the flaggers. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete this work safely.
