Property Tax Notices are in the mail now. If you have not received your notice by June 8th, call the Municipal Hall at 250-474-3167.
There are multiple ways you can pay your property tax:
The District of Metchosin accepts:
- Cheques, bank drafts (cheques can be post-dated up to July 2, 2024)
- Debit. Check ahead with your bank to see if you have an adequate single transaction/daily limit
- Cash
- We do not take e-transfers, or accept credit cards for payment.
- You can pay through your on-line banking as you would pay a bill by adding the District of Metchosin as a payee. The Roll number on your property tax notice is your ‘account’ number. You must allow a few business days for your online payments to be processed.
- You can mail a cheque for your property tax payment. Please allow plenty of time for the mail system to deliver on time.
- You can make arrangements for your mortgage company to pay. Contact your bank/mortgage company about this option.
- The District has a pre-authorized payment plan. See the Taxes and Budgets Page on Metchosin’s website for information. Municipal Hall > Taxes and Budgets
- Pay in person at your bank.
The Municipal Hall is open 8-4 Monday-Friday. Note, however - Closed on Canada Day July 1, and open an extra hour until 5:00 pm on July 2nd.
There is a drop box to the right of the front door available 24/7 for non-cash payments.
Apply for your Home Owner Grant
If you are eligible for the Provincial Home Owner Grant, please claim this grant before the tax due date to avoid penalty on that portion of taxes. Complete the application online at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or by phone 1-888-355-2700. Claim your home owner grant every year, even if you are on the property tax deferral program.
Deferment of Taxes
Eligible BC residents apply to, renew or cancel their applications to the Province for the property tax deferment program. Find out more at gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment. For questions about property tax deferral, please call 1-888-355-2700. Those who are on the property tax deferral program, still need to apply for the home owner grant every year if eligible.
